This year’s OT Show 2019 certainly didn’t disappoint, with thousands of Occupational Therapists (OTs) and healthcare professionals UK flocking to Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre in search of innovation from the world of occupational therapy.
Set up on Stand E20 for the duration of the OT Show 2019, our Clinical and New Product Development teams were super excited to speak with expectant OTs about the challenges they face in their roles and how we might be able to provide a viable solution.
This year’s stand included a Walton Adjustable Divan Bed, which was used to showcase our award-winning EasyFit Plus+ Bed Rail and NRS Bed Ladder - 2 items which drew quite a crowd during the 2-day exhibition.
Our Head of Product Development, Sue, hosted 6 education sessions on our stand during the course of the show to demonstrate the features of the NRS Easyfit Plus+ Bed Rail and give healthcare professionals the chance to try out the product for themselves. Sue was also on hand to speak with occupational therapists about the Atlas Advance Transfer Aid and the NRS Freestyle Rollator which was designed in-house by Sue and her team of product engineers.
Also hosting education sessions during the OT Show 2019 was our fabulous Occupational Therapist from York, Deb. Working as part of our Technology Enabled Care Services (TECS), Deb is super knowledgeable about how telecare products and services can be invaluable to healthcare professionals within the independent living sector. Her sessions proved to be very popular over the 2-day exhibition, with lots of attendees wanting to get involved in Debs interactive workshop called “What’s in my bag?”
As well as hosting education sessions on Stand E20, the OT Show 2019 also provided us with the opportunity to sponsor Theatre 2B and host a workshop presentation on “OT Practice in a Digital World.”
Led by our Head of Technology Enabled Care Services, James, the workshop focussed heavily on how using a range of digital technologies, including telecare products and services, can not only benefit users, but also practicing OT professionals.
There wasn’t a spare seat to be had in the workshop during the 2 days the OT Show 2019 ran. Our TECS Occupational Therapist, Deb, was superb in explaining how a robotic animal (in this case, a cat) can be used to help calm others and give them something to positive to focus us.
Meanwhile, our Assistive Technology Support Manager, Martin, showed off the features of the Ethel Smarthub which can help staff care for more people in the community, providing better hospice and palliative care.
We also had the lovely Chris from MySense with us during the OT Show 2019, and he was invaluable when it came to explaining how this home healthcare monitoring system uses artificial intelligence to learn what “being well” looks like for each individual user.
Thank you to everyone who visited our stand, and who took part in our education sessions/workshops during the OT Show 2019. We hope you found them eye-opening and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
