It’s World Occupational Therapy Week! Your chance to get an insight into the amazing work that Occupational Therapists (OTs) do and how they support people in need. If you've ever wanted to become an OT, now is your chance to find out what it can be like! Join our OT's Deb, Kim, Lauren, and Julia as they go about their days.
7:00am – leave for work looking bright eyed and bushy-tailed (shame this look won’t last).
7:45am – arrive at work, quick coffee and catch up on email enquiries.
8:40am – enquiry discussion with Ops Team Lead Lee and Driver Barry – they always make me smile.
9:35am – Enquiry discussion with Warehouse Tech Dave. I need to wear lots of layers in the warehouse as it’s cold with the large doors open. No idea how Dave copes in a T-shirt (I secretly think he’s a Viking).
9:50am – Back to my desk to work through the rest of the emails and take a few calls from prescribers; listening to the Pop Quiz on Radio 2 helps.
10:40am – Prep work for the Face-2-Face stair rails and grab rails training this afternoon.
11:15 – quick snack and catch up with Emma (Depot Manager) before leaving for the drive to Bourne – no time for lunch.
12:05pm – arrive at Bourne Health Clinic and commence stair and grab rail training with the fabulous Community Health Therapy Team. Social distancing and PPE rules adhered to. Consent obtained for the photo. Everyone joined in and participated in all the exercises with a few giggles along the way (humour always makes training more interesting).
2:00pm – Finish training and received a very lovely thank you gift; ate a couple on the drive home and called it lunch. So delicious I will not be sharing – sorry, not sorry!
3:00pm – Got home just in time to log in and join the ‘OT tea@3’ support webinar with this amazing crowd. This is an essential support group for ICES OTs as we often work on our own. My cat made its requisite appearance (the curse of working from home); she thinks she’s part of the team. She manages to put my microphone on mute and adds appointments to my calendar just by tiptoeing over the key board?
3:30pm – Final round of enquiries and phone calls to the depot and prescribers. A call from Emma advising I’ll be completing a joint visit with a tech driver in Spalding tomorrow – very happy as I love home visits (stickers for grab rail placement at the ready).
5:20pm – work bag packed and everything ready for the next day – now where’s my cup of tea!
