It’s Christmastime! A time for celebration and delicious food. But with Christmas looking at little different this year you may find yourself cooking your Christmas feast for the first time in a while.
Don’t worry, there are plenty of kitchen aids to help make sure it goes off without a hitch.
Christmas dinner can involve a lot of peeling and chopping, not always the easiest task if your hand strength isn’t quite what it was. You have a few different options here to help you get your feast prepared.
The NRS Kitchen Spread Board with Spike and a 3-Way Grater helps you to prepare food without assistance, this jack-of-all-trades aid includes:
Or, if you don’t need a grater, you can get the spread board on its own.
You may also want to consider getting the Easi Grip Contoured Handle General Purpose Knife to help you slice and chop food with ease. It has a thick, easy-to-hold, non-slip handle that is angled to keep your wrist in a natural position and prevent strain.
Need helping with weighing food out and measuring liquids? The Talking Kitchen Scale with Easy to See Measuring Jug might be the answer. The easy to see measuring jug has a wide based to help avoid it tipping over and can measure liquids up to 1.3 litres, while the talking scales have a max weight limit of 5kg (11lbs). The talking scale also feature a clear display and easy to use buttons.
It’s not always possible to stay on your feet the whole time you’re preparing food in the kitchen and there’s no shame in needing a bit of extra support. A perching stool would be great if you need to take the weight off your feet for a moment while cooking as it would give you the support you need without you having to pause what you were doing.
Did the stuffing packet or gravy granules get pushed to the back of the cupboard? Rather than stretching or straining to reach it, use an NRS Combi-Reacher to grab the item or perhaps use an Adjustable Step Stool to help you reach it.
If you find pans difficult to move generally – especially when they’re full of hot water and vegetables – why not try a Stainless Steel Cooking Basket? This great kitchen aid fits inside your pan so that when your food is cooked (like your sprouts) you can lift the basket out and drain the food as you do so. This makes it much easier to lift and move while reducing some of the strain on your hands and wrists.
When your Christmas dinner is almost ready, it’s time for that final touch: the gravy! If you find lifting a full kettle of hot water difficult and you’re using gravy granules to make your gravy, then you may want to get a kettle tipper to help ease the strain.
A tipper like the Universal Kettle Tipper could work with your existing kettle, holding it securely in place so you can angle it for easy pouring.
Once everything’s ready it’s time to carve the turkey! If you find carving meat to be a struggle, try the Easi Grip Contoured Handle Carving Knife. It has a thick, non-slip handle that’s angled to get your hand and wrist in a more natural position to avoid strain.
Avoid spills and mishaps on your way to the dinner table by using a tea trolley, like the Home Helper Trolley. These trolleys are ideal for helping you carry food and drinks from one place to another, especially if you need a little added help and support while walking.
Making Christmas dinner can be a daunting undertaking but there are a variety of kitchen aids to help you out and make life that little bit easier.
