NRS Healthcare are exhibiting at Kidz to Adultz Middle on 21st March, and we’d like to share with you all about our daily living aids for children and young people.
At NRS Healthcare, we believe that getting the right daily living aids is crucial in supporting children and young people who have a disability, health condition or special needs. We have a large range of paediatric equipment, some that is suitable for children with complex needs, and many items that are designed to provide simple solutions for children who just need that bit of extra help.
Here, we highlight some of our key children’s disability products, designed by our own in-house team, which we’ll be exhibiting at Kidz to Adultz Middle. We’re focussing on products to help children go to the toilet, and aids to help children in the shower, because we know these everyday activities can be challenging for families and children with additional needs.
We first designed the Seahorse Sanichair many years ago, but it has been reinvented in the last couple of years and now it’s better than ever and has a new name! Seahorse Plus enables a child or young adult, with moderate to high needs, to use one chair for toileting and also for showering.
The Seahorse can be used over the toilet or as a commode with the included potty, which is removable and easy to clean. Parents or carers can transport the child to the shower easily, and use the gas-assisted, tilt-in-space mechanism to recline the child whilst keeping their body in the same position and avoiding discomfort or awkward transfers.
The Seahorse Plus is obviously height adjustable and also includes a supportive, height and depth adjustable headrest, as well as height adjustable footrests, so it can be altered to fit the child perfectly.
The Seahorse Plus works with removable, padded liners, which provide excellent comfort and come in a choice of thicknesses.
The Seahorse Plus chair itself comes in three sizes, the largest being suitable for an average sized 15 to 18-year-old (maximum weight 24st), so the chair can be used by young adults as well as young children from around age 5. There are also a range of accessories, including flip-up anterior supports and a choice of chest or butterfly-style harness for added security.
Standard sized adult toilets are difficult for some children to use, and these two daily living aids may help if your child perhaps has additional mobility difficulties and needs support to get on and off the toilet safely.
Our Nuvo Petite Children’s Toilet Platform may be the solution. It’s a sturdy frame with a large, raised area to step onto, with the addition of long, curved hand rails that give the child support when making their way onto the toilet, whilst sitting on the toilet and then getting back off again. The platform itself has a bright blue, slip-resistant mat for safety, and making it easier to see in a white bathroom. There are four rubber feet which keep it secure on bathroom floors.
The Nuvo Petite Children’s Toilet Frame provides similar side handle support to the Toilet Platform above, and is placed right up against the toilet. The child can use the handles to help position themselves on the loo and then get back off again safely.
This small commode is perfectly designed for children. It adjusts in height, has a comfortable backrest for comfort and a lap strap for safety, and comes with a removable potty with a carry handle and lid.
Finally, our Children’s Height Adjustable Shower Chair is handy for children who prefer to shower (or are unable to bathe) but are unable to stand safely for long enough. It is sturdy with slip-resistant feet and built-in armrests for a sense of security, and to help with sitting and standing.
We can’t wait to meet parents, carers and professionals at the Kidz to Adultz Middle event, and we would love your feedback on our toileting and bathing equipment for children and young adults. Pop along to stand B4 and see the range.
We have a huge online range of equipment for children and young adults, including:
